At the recent meeting of the Global Agenda Councils of the World Economic Forum, in Abu Dhabi in mid-November a new Human Trafficking subgroup of the ITOC and Inter-council task force was launched.  Co-chaired by Christina Bain of Babson and Louise Shelley of TraCCC, the Council seeks to address human trafficking by actively engaging different sectors of the business community.  More than 30 people attended the initial launch in Abu Dhabi, representing different industries, civil society, and multi-national organizations. This new group is supported at the highest levels of the World Economic Forum because of the growing realization of the costs of human trafficking and the important role that businesses can play in combating it.  In 2013-2104 the group plans to galvanize a group of corporate leaders to promote better business conduct, by collecting and analyzing existing codes of conduct for businesses to combat or prevent human trafficking, to assess their broader or sector suitability and make them available to a larger community.
