Christian R. Swan is an experienced international negotiator and advocacy strategist in anti-illicit trade (security), health diplomacy and capacity building.
His work experience includes 12 years at Philip Morris International where he held various positions of increasing responsibilities in corporate affairs. In 2017 he was appointed Director Illicit Trade Prevention (ITP). In this role Christian has led the development of PMI Impact, a US$ 100 million initiative launched in 2016 to support 3rd parties in developing solutions to fight against illegal trade and related crimes by funding more than 60 projects in 30 countries through investments in infrastructures and innovative technologies, purchase of equipment, capacity building, awareness campaigns and multi sectoral research.
Before joining PMI, he worked for the Clinton Foundation – HIV/AIDS Initiative (CHAI) first as Regional Manager in West Africa promoting healthcare support with governments in the region and then representing the Foundation in the establishment of the global health initiative UNITAID in Geneva.
Christian has also worked in the fields of public procurement, supply chain management and institutional capacity building for UNDP and UN Peacekeeping Operations in several African countries.
Christian holds a Second Level Master’s Degree in International Affairs from the Italian Institute for International Political Studies – ISPI (Milan, Italy) and a Master’s Degree “Cum Laude” in Political Science from the University of Pisa (Italy).
